I'm very interested in making a trip to Algeria and Tunisia, maybe later this year (September, Octobre), but I was wondering about some things.
How does it work with the visa? I usually use Couchsurfing (hospitality network) to stay with local people. Could someone local write me an invitation and can I apply with this invitation for the visa or is it more complicated than that? Do I need to have hotel reservations anyway and/or do I need to show all of my planned itinerary? Are Algerians officially allowed to host foreigners? Because I know that in Iran it isn't and there you should avoid at all times telling the authorities that you stay with locals.
I generally prefer to travel by train and if that's not possible by bus. I'm not very rich, so I travel on budget and avoid to take taxis as much as possible. Also, I prefer to travel inside a country just as the local people do. Would there be any problem in that? I read that quite some European took taxis or avoided transportation in the evening, but I don't know whether that is because they are scared or a bit ignorant or that there is a justified reason for that. I would probably come from the south of Tunisia and travel through parts of the northern Sahara (El Oued, Ghardaïa, Béchar) and then go back through the north of the country
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
